Alysen is the founder of Train Your Seat Equestrian Training & Rider Biomechanics

────

Alysen's connection to horses began in her childhood on her grandparents' farm. She attended the University of Alberta in Canada for a BA in Psychology. After university, she dove deeply into the combination of psychology with movement and the body. Studying under some of the top leaders in the field of mind-body movement. She served as a faculty member for an imagery based systematic method for movement and postural retraining.

With extensive training in kinesiology, biomechanics, mental imagery, and somatics, she has been dedicated to working with equestrians for over 11 years.

In 2018, Alysen was invited to develop the equestrian branch for a prominent movement education program, which later led to the creation of Train Your Seat Equestrian Training; designed to fully acknowledge and encompass the unique interaction between horse and rider.

At the heart of Train Your Seat's philosophy is an understanding of the dynamic between horse and rider. This horse-and-rider-centric approach allows for a holistic training method that optimizes communication and enhances movement efficiency. Unlock smoother, more effective riding by mastering the dynamics of your bones in movement.

Arthrokinematics of the Knee

This module delves into the intricate movements within the knee joint that are crucial for leg aids and alignment. You’ll explore how the knee’s rolling, gliding, and spinning motions impact your leg position, stability, and control in the saddle. Understanding these subtle mechanics will help you improve balance, prevent strain, and enhance your riding posture.

The Menisci

This module focuses on the two crescent-shaped cartilage structures within the knee joint that play a vital role in shock absorption, stability, and movement. You’ll learn how the menisci support and protect your knees while riding, ensuring smoother transitions, enhanced balance, and greater comfort in the saddle. Understanding their function helps you maintain optimal joint health and improve your riding performance.

This module lays the groundwork for achieving a more secure and effective connection to the stirrups.

The Ankle (Talocrual) Joint

This module examines the primary joint connecting the foot to the leg, crucial for maintaining balance and flexibility while riding. You’ll discover how the ankle joint’s range of motion affects your lower leg’s alignment, shock absorption, and connection with the stirrup. By mastering the mechanics of the talocrural joint, you can improve elasticity and mobility of the ankle to achieve smoother, more controlled movements.

Foot Lesson

This module dives into the practical application of foot anatomy and mechanics in riding. You’ll learn how to position and engage your feet to maintain balance, absorb shock, and communicate effectively with your horse. This lesson provides actionable techniques to optimize foot placement, enhance stability, and improve your overall riding experience.

Imagery for Muscles & Fascia

This module explores the use of visualization techniques to enhance muscle engagement and awareness while riding. You’ll learn how specific muscles within the lower leg and foot. By applying these imagery practices, you can create more effective movements, reduce tension, absorb force, find more suppleness and elasticity in the leg and foot. With more suppleness and elasticity, leg aids become much clearer and more precise.

“This course will fundamentally change the way you ride and the way you coach others. The knowledge and the experience of feeling the change in your own body as you apply what you have learned by either working with the simulator yourself of coaching others through the process will set you apart from other trainers in the market. It is worth the investment in both time and money.”

What Our Students Think:

"Truly one of the best distance learning courses"

I have taken a lot of distance learning courses and this was truly one of the best. Very pedagogic and all the exercises meant that I did not get tired during the four hours. For me, this is much better than going on a course live. Having the opportunity to watch webinar several times is fantastic

"Complex topics are explained in a simple, straightforward way"

Overall I really enjoyed the course! Alysen has a way of explaining even complex topics in a simple, straightforward way which I really appreciated as someone who has had zero previous training on anatomy. I will definitely be back for another one

"What I love when teaching is how clients get instant feedback"

What I love when delivering a session is how clients get instant feedback on how to notice a change in their body which also affects their horse….that is truly lovely to see!
